LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLLER
In summer 2025, Power Through Sport brought Let the Good Times Roller back to The Metrocentre, Gateshead, following its hugely successful debut in 2024. Once again, Exhibition Square was transformed into a vibrant celebration of movement, music and community spirit. Running from 12th August to 7th September 2025, the pop-up roller rink welcomed people of all ages and abilities to roll, dance and connect, creating an inclusive space where families, friends and individuals alike could come together, with some visitors booking in advance and others joining as walk-ins during their time at the centre. The project was designed to do more than entertain — it created an energetic environment where everyone could experience the joy of movement and share in memorable moments, whether booked or spontaneous. Further detail on the reach and impact of the 2025 rink can be found in the impact report below.
Building on the success of previous years, we’re delighted to announce that the Roller Rink will be returning to The Metrocentre in 2026.
The Metrocentre’s popular Roller Rink will once again take over Exhibition Square this summer, bringing two weeks of family fun, music, movement and unforgettable memories to the heart of the centre.
Running from Tuesday 18th August until Bank Holiday Monday 31st August 2026, the Roller Rink invites visitors of all ages and abilities to experience the excitement of roller skating in a vibrant, feel-good environment. Whether you're stepping onto wheels for the very first time or reliving the nostalgia of roller discos, there’s something for everyone.
Each day begins with two dedicated Learn to Skate sessions from 9.30am–10.00am and 10.00am–10.30am, giving beginners the opportunity to build confidence and develop their skating skills with support from experienced instructors. A SEND-friendly Quiet Session follows from 10.30am–11.00am, providing a calmer and more inclusive skating experience for those who benefit from reduced noise and a relaxed atmosphere.
Open skating sessions then run throughout the day, giving families, friends and visitors plenty of opportunities to enjoy the rink at their own pace.
Visitors can enjoy a 30-minute skating session for just £5, including skate hire, making the Roller Rink one of the most affordable and accessible family attractions of the summer holidays.
Every ticket sold helps support the work of Power Through Sport CIC, a North East social enterprise dedicated to improving health, wellbeing and social connection through inclusive physical activity programmes.
Johnny Tulip, Managing Director of Power Through Sport CIC, said:
“We’re delighted to be bringing the Roller Rink back to Metrocentre for another summer. Each year we see thousands of people come together on the rink, creating an incredible atmosphere and showing that being active can be fun, affordable and inclusive. In 2026 we’re continuing to focus on supporting new skaters, families and SEND participants, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to get involved, build confidence and make lasting memories.”
Booking is recommended, although walk-up spaces will be available subject to availability. Skating will commence on Tuesday 18th August and continue through to Bank Holiday Monday 31st August.
